Born in July 1940, Dr. K P Mohammed, Director, graduated in Mechanical Engineering in the year 1963 from College of Engineering, Trichur, Kerala, India. He worked in an ERW pipe manufacturing company from July 63. He took his Masters Degree in Heat Power Engineering in the year 1967.
He joined Regional Engineering College, REC, Calicut, Kerala as Lecturer in October 1967 and served the College till February 1978. During December 1970 to June 1974 he worked as a full time scholar at IIT Madras, on deputation from the REC, Calicut and successfully completed the Ph.D Degree. He worked in the field of Turbomachines and his Ph.D. Thesis on Axial flow fan with forward swept blades was highly commended.
His eleven year service at the REC, Calicut, is perhaps the most productive period in his career. He and a team of colleagues successfully completed some major industrial projects, the notable being the development of Boiler feed Pump for a leading utility Boiler manufacturer in India.
He left REC, Calicut in February 1978 to join another REC at Tiruchirappalli as Asst. Professor and in November 1981 he was selected as Professor of Mechanical Engineering. In June 1985 he was made Head of the department and he served in that capacity till July 1998. His twenty long years of services at the REC,Tiruchirappally was the most satisfying in that he earned accolades both from academicians and industrialists for his contribution.
He was mainly responsible for establishing a technology park as an adjunct to the REC, Tiruchi. He developed two new Post Graduate courses, one to cater to the needs of Boiler manufacturers and the other on Industrial Safety. He has number of publications to his credit. He joined Crescent Engineering College, Chennai in July 1998 as Principal, and served the institution till November 2005. Currently with our institution since November 2005.
